Today we are going to discuss about various top garlic varieties which are grown in India.

Garlic is an important and nutritious vegetable. This is usually used as a spice. Garlic is more nutritious than other tuber vegetables. It is used as various medicinal purposes.
It is effective in treating stomach disorders, eye irritation,ear pain and sore throat etc.

Its leaves, stems and flowers are also consumed, usually when they are immature and soft. Its paper protective layer (peel) which remains attached to its various parts and ties associated with the knot, is the only inedible part.The sulfur compounds found in it are responsible for its tastes and odor. Such as alicin, azone etc. Garlic is most produced in China, after that in India.

Agrifound White (G-41):

This type of tuber is solid, medium-sized white and pulp cream color. The number of buds in each tuber is 20 to 25. Crop is ready in 160-165 days and the average yield per hectare is 125-130 quintals. This is a resistant variety for purple smear and scars.

Yamuna White (G-1):

This type of tuber is white, white and pulp-like cream solid and skin silver color. The diameter of the chalk tubers is 4 to 4.5 cm and in one tuber 25 to 30 buds are found. This variety is prepared in 155-160 days and gives an average yield of 150-175 quintals per hectare. This type is resistant to purple smear and scars and can be stored for longer period.


Yamuna White-2 (G-50):

This type of garlic are of solid, white and pulp cream. This type is also tolerant for purple smear and scars. These varieties are excavated in 165-170 days. From this variety, average yield is obtained for 150-160 (quintal / ha).

Yamuna White-3 (G-282):

It is a variety of white buds, which has a pulp of cream and 15 to 18 buds are found in one tuber. This variety is cooked in 140-150 days and yields an average yield of 150-175 quintals per hectare. This is the best kind of export.

Yamuna White-4 (G-323):

This type of garlic is white like silver and is of very large size (3.5 to 4.0 cm) and in one tuber 20 to 25 buds are found. This variety is ready after 165-170 days and yields an average yield of 150-160 kilograms per hectare.

Yamuna White-5 (G-189):

This type of garlic is coarse, shiny white and large size (4.5 to 5.0 cm) and in one tuber 22 to 30 buds are found. This variety is ready after 150-160 days and yields an average yield of 155-170 sq.m. per hectare. The storage capacity of these varieties is resistant to good and acute diseases, bagniography and thrips.

Bhima Omkar:

This garlic variety is of medium size solid and white color. This variety is ready in 120-135 days. Average yield per hectare is obtained from 80-140 quintals. This type of thrips is sensitive to pests. This type is suitable for the areas of Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Bhima Purple:

This type of garlic are of purple color. This variety is ready in 120-125 days. Average yield per hectare is obtained from 60-70 sq. It is suitable for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

G282:

The scales of this type are white and large in size. With this, the crop is ready in 140 to 150 days. In this case the farmer gets a yield of 175 to 200 quintals per hectare.

IC 42891:

This type of garlic has been developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. This variety gives more yield to the farmers and the crop is ready in 160-180 days.

Godavari:

This type is developed by selection from Jamnagar collection, This garlic variety is of medium and pink in size. In this there are 25-30 buds per lump. These varieties are tolerant for Mahu. The period is 130-140 days. The average yield is 150 quintals per hectare.

Shveta:

The size of the garlic is medium and white. 20-25 buds are found in every lump. Duration is 120-130 days. The average yield is 130 quintals per hectare.

Advanced Garlic varieties G1:

The garlic lumps are white, well-formed and medium-sized. In every lump 15-20 buds are found. This variety is prepared by grinding in 160 – 180 days of the seedling. This yields 40 to 45 quintal per acre.

AG 17:

This variety is more suitable for Haryana. The gothis of it are white and well organized. The weight of the lump is 25-30 grams. In every lump 15-20 buds are found. This variety is prepared after ripening in 160-170 days of the seedling. The yield is approximately 50 quintals per acre.

Type 56-4:

This type of garlic has been developed on behalf of Punjab Agricultural University. In it, the garlic are small and white. There are 25 to 34 buds in each lump. This type yields yields of 15 to 20 tonnes per hectare.

IC 49381:

This kind has been developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. This type of garlic crop is prepared in 160 to 180 days. Farmers get more yield from this variety.

Solan:

This type of garlic has been developed by Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University. In this case, the leaves of plants are very wide and long and the color is deep. There are four slabs in each lump and it is quite thick. It is more yielding than other varieties.
